So am I correct in my assumption that there should be some minimal amount 
of play in the bearings, or should I try to eliminate it, as long as the 
washer is still relatively free to move around?  I ask because the hub nuts 
are at the point where there's absolutely no play in the hub (but the 
washer can still move), but if I loosen it by just one slot (next available 
cotter pin position) I end up with what I would have called excessive play. 
I'm inclined to loosen them though because I've always been under the 
impression that there should be some play, but now I'm wondering if this 
assumption is invalid and I should just make sure the washer is free and 
the wheels can turn.
