Brake effort

"Any racers, engineers, etc. on the digest care to comment on what
they think ideal brake pedal effort should be at max decel in a race
car?

Thanks,
Joe Elliott"

Max decel ought to equal pretty much max boot pressure, in my estimation. The main reason I've tended to be in favor of unboosted brakes is that I've had such good
results with them. The very best brakes I've had with any car were the unservoed disks of my Daimler SP250, back in the early '60s, wherein a car that handled like
a pig on ice when driven on dry pavement would nonetheless stop with alacrity and controllability on slippery stuff. I was deeply impressed...

What we're looking for is a range of controllability. An unservoed system gives a range from barely there to all the leg you can muster, while the typical
mass-market "power brake" system goes to all-on just a bit past a serious push. I found myself, one afternoon, braking my '74 Berlina hard while simultaneously
steering around a freeway accident, and that was shortly after I'd cut off the booster. Made a believer out of me.
