Fwiw,

I don't recall the E-type being a great autocrosser even when it was
'new'.  The one or two that I recall showing up at events in the early
80's, back when I was an active autocrosser, regularly got beaten by
pretty much all of the Alfa/Porsche/BMW's.

Of course, I don't recall which E-type these were, or the capabilities
of the drivers.  I just remember they didn't do all that well.

This article makes a good point.  Take any 30 year old Alfa, even with
upgraded tires, and there are any number of (cheap) showroom cars that
will beat it under almost any conditions.
