RE: V6 Crank "gouge"



Yes, the "gouge" is supposed to be there.
Many years ago, while visiting Arese (the Alfa plant) on business, I asked
the engineering staff about it.
I was informed that the gouge was there to provide additional cooling by way
of a extended duration application of oil by the lubrication jet located in
the big end of the connecting rod.
This was desirable in that #4 ran slightly hotter due to design/packaging
characteristics.
