69 Berlina Brakes - Part XXIX
It finally dawned on me that the number of times that the brakes locked up
on me, that the old pads were glazed. This weekend I replaced the pads and
lo and behold, the brakes were much improved. Now I'm wondering about the
rotors. I've heard others mention that after putting new pads on they needed
to break the glaze on the rotors but I don't remember what the technique
was. Can somebody help me out?
Considering the amount of time I've spent staring at the calipers while
bleeding the brakes, I can't believe I never noticed that the pins on the
right caliper were never fully seated and that the anti-rattle spring was
missing on the left caliper. Anybody have an extra that they'd be willing to
sell me?
Lastly, I've got the Lockheed boosters out of the car and I'm trying to
dissasemble them. I'm stuck on the plastic (bakelite?) disk that the
diaphram fits over. There's metal tab that looks like it should push in and
release the disk but it won't go in far enough. If anyone know how to get it
off or has diagram of the booster that they can copy it would be a great
help. I doubt I'll get anywhere with rebuilding them but its worth a try.
Thanks,
Mitch Wolberg,
