Re: alfa-digest V9 #239

I wrote this several months ago. At the time, GM had not made clear its position on the put, and at that time 'Automotive News -Europe' did report that Fiat brass didn't want the deal either for a number of reasons. A recent AutoWeek has an interview with a designer at Ferrari/Maserati who says that adding Alfa to the two was still in the works and that Audi wants to invest up to 49% in the trio. Its all just rumors at this point, I think.

Subject: Fiat Reorganizes

According to 'Automotive News -Europe', Fiat is reorganizing in a bid
to stave off the General Motors stock put which obligates them to buy
the remaining 80% of Fiat Auto in the next few years. Part of this

I thought it was GM that wanted out of this deal? Several reports I
read mentioned a $1B payment to Fiat for cancelling the put.

re-org, is the long hoped-for coupling of Alfa Romeo with
Ferrari/Maserati (Hooray!) to form an automotive "Supergruppo."

[...]

italiaspeed.com reported yesterday:

"Projected plans to add the Alfa Romeo brand to create

a super luxury-sportscar group have run aground."

but they didn't provide any details. Has anyone heard
anything about this? The report was mainly about Maser
looking for cash to bring their SUV to market.
