Removing cylinder head studs

I needed to swap the studs for the intake manifold on the cylinder head of 
the 1750 I'm rebuilding order to reinstall the original Spica injection 
intake manifold.  The donor head for the injection studs is "original" - 
they have never been removed.  I cannot get the darn studs out!  Double & 
triple nutting did not help.  To be honest,  my success in double nutting 
over time is about 50%.   Am I missing something?

I finally broke down and used a vice grip and got 3 of four studs out, but 
the last one is still stuck tight and I'm starting to munk up the 
stud.   Any suggestions for removing the stud without destroying it?
