Installing studs
The best way is to use a stud box.
This is a block of steel, ,usually hexagon shaped to take a wrench on the
flats, with a blind hole drilled and tapped deep enough to not strip the
thread, but not deep enough to contain all the threads on the stud.. In the
bottom of the blind hole is a small piece of copper which allows the stud
box to unscrew from the stud without unscrewing the stud.
The next best way is to put two nuts on the thread that doesnt go into the
casting and lock them together. Use the outer nut to tighten in, then
unlock the two nuts and remove them.
the worst way is to use a pipe wrench, vice grips etc. to screw them in.
This leaves marks on the stud and in the worst case the stud will not fit
through the hole without causing damage to whatever fits over the stud.
