U-Joints Pt III

Well, I got the driveshaft out of the car this morning (I marked it 
carefully so I could put it back in correctly), but when I try the 
U-joints now there seems to be no play at all, and they're not stiff 
either. Also, right before I removed the shaft I played around with it 
some more and what little play seemed to be there seemed to be coming 
from the spline area. Yet when it's out, no play at all in the splines 
either.

It's not a lost cause... I need to change the pinion seal. But what's up 
with all this?
