Re: tire chains

Most people put chains on the drive wheels only, which is the best way to
address the propulsion issue. However, a case could be made for using chains
on all four to preserve normal steering characteristics (over/understeer) and
avoid braking disasters (e.g. rear wheels locking before front). This is what
is recommended in the instructions that came with my new set of chains (don't
remember the brand name, but they are widely available in auto stores and made
in Oregon). On some 4-wheel drive passenger cars such as a 164 Q4 or 155
ditto, using only one set of chains may potentially damage the center
differential (< mandatory Alfa content).
