Brera to see production and 156 Coupe on the way???

The Aussies seem to think so.

Aussie Engine to Power Alfa Super Coupe
Alfa Romeo has given the thumbs up to building a 400hp two-seat super coupe
based on the gorgeous Brera concept car (pictured) revealed at the Geneva
Show last year. The coupe, known within Alfa Romeo as Evoluta, could be
powered by a twin turbocharged version of the very same Australian built
3.8-litre V6 headed for the VZ Commodore. Great news for Australia is that
it will come Downunder, based on a commitment by Alfa Romeo's Australian
importers to the Italian factory that whatever models are available in
Europe will be offered in Australia.

Reports in UK Autocar magazine reveal that the production car will be a
two-seater and will have performance to rival the Porsche 911. Alfa Romeo
has set a power target of 300kW for the rear-drive coupe and is considering
a number of engine alternatives to reach this target. A twin turbocharged
version of the all-alloy 3.8-litre HFV6 to be built by Holden at Fishermans
Bend, is understood to be the preferred engine, which could give the car a
top speed of close to 300km/h and a 0-100km/h time under 5.0 seconds.

It's been known for some time that General Motors' HFV6 engine will be used
in Alfa and Fiat products, however the characteristics of the engine would
be tailored very specifically to meet Alfa's performance and driving
requirements. Obviously a 300kW twin-turbocharged V6 would amply meet those
requirements.

Alfa 156 Coupe for 2004
Of more immediate interest is word that Alfa Romeo will produce a pillarless
two door coupe based on the existing 156 platform, expected to debut at the
Frankfurt motor show in September 2003. The 156 coupe - developed along the
same conceptual lines as BMW's 3 Series coupes - will be powered by a range
of engines taken from the 156 sedan, including the 2.0-litre JTS four,
2.5-litre and 3.2-litre V6.

Dubbed the 'Sprint' by industry pundits, the 156 coupe will wear a 147-style
nose when it launches in Australia mid-2004. It is expected to carry a
slight price premium over the equivalent sedan.
