Replacing Ignition Switch in '83 GTV6

I have just acquuired a whole steering column in order to replace my failed
wiper switch...easier and cheaper than buying and installing a new one.
While I have the soon to be installed steering column sitting in front of me
I decided why not install that new ignition switch I purchased but have been
putting off installing. After removing the old switch I see that there is a
mismatch to the new switch.

The old switch has a large bundle of 4 2.5mm wires. 3 (red, tan, green)
terninate in a multiplug, the remaining black terminates in a single male
connector. There are also 2 smaller black wires but they were not attached
and were just wrapped around the steering column housing.

The new switch has two bundles of wires. One has 3 large wires (but not as
large as the old switch) red, tan, black. The second bundle is made up of 2
smaller wires, red and black (I believe these to be excess on the GTV6 and
used for the lighted ring on the Milano). That leaves me with one fewer
connection than on the current switch. If I just go to color matching there
will be no replacement for the green wire. In the GTV6 wiring diagram the
green wire goes to a resistor which in turn goes to the spark amplifier
module. Could this be a left over from the old ignition resistor and is
really no longer necessary? Any one know how these wires should match up?
