Tach drive on '84 Spider?

Where does the tach get it's signal on a '84 Spider?  

This is the 'old' two-pod instrument panel but w/Bosch F.I.  Is it from the rev 
sensor on the bell housing or from the coil?  The service manual is a bit vague

The tach is dead but not sure why.  Any ideas?
