well, for the SCCA at least, sanity.
adding tin tops and limited prep rules to Production has brought the
category back from near death. most of us who were watching as the club
progressively screwed things through the 80s and 90s didn't really believe
that this was possible.
so how many of those who do track events would consider building a
limited prep Alfa for production? it's not crash & bang like IT can be at
times.
features of the rules:
hot motors (cams & pistons), weber carbs
IT style suspensions (drop in and bolt on bits, none of the extreme mods
of traditional production like relocation of pickup points)
lightened body panels
extensive roll cages (forward bracing can be carried through the firewall
to the shock/strut towers)
wide slick tires
dual master cylinder braking setups (but no cross drilled rotors, please,
and stick with the stock calipers)
FIA FT-3 fuel cell required
fire system required
relocation of batteries permitted, subject to use of a gel cel or a marine
style battery box when relocating to the passenger compartment
racing seat required
