Re: New shoes for Spider

I can't comment on the P4000 but I switched from Dunlops to the Pirelli P6000 last year and am very pleased with the change. The car's handling imporved so dramatically that if I hadn't known better I'd have sworn I was driving a different car!

Subject: New shoes for Spider

My aging Yoko A509s on my Spider need to be replaced (they could be
mistaken for racing slicks). I was looking at the Bridgestone Potenza
RE950 and the Yoko Es100 in 195 65 14 size. I called my favorite tire
shoppe (Radial Tire in Silver Spring, Md) and asked them about these two
tires. Radial outfits lots of Alfas and go-fast cars; got my R1s from them.

In reference to the Potenza, he said that they have turned out to quite
a noisy tire; he is shaving about 20 a month to reduce the cacophony.
His comment on the Yoko is that they are a so-so tire. His
recommendation is the 'new' Pirelli 4000 - it has a recently redesigned
carcass. It is all-season rated but wasn't really designed that way;
much like radial tires are rated as 'snow' tires. The 'new' ones are
supposed to be much better than the 'old' 4000s. The price is around
$65/each - much in accord with the RE950s.
Anyone have any experience with these new Pirellis?
