2 questions on stepper gears job

i sent these yesterday, but they were buried in a longer posting about
the stepper gear job, and so may have been overlooked:

1) i have the gear cases out. they're difficult to open; the smaller end
seems to be binding up. anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

2) there is a white plastic piece about 2.5 inches long with what appears
to be a temp sender at the end, which attaches to the stepper motor wiring
harness. i inadvartantly pulled it out of whereever it fits. anybody know
how i put it back where it goes?
