Aluminum oxide is what protects aluminum from corrosion, because it is
very inert. As an oxide,
it's already "burnt". If you melt it down under great heat, it makes a glassy materiel known as
Sapphire...


Kinda...BUT powdered aluminum oxide is also a major component of solid rocket fuel, such as in the solid rocket boosters used on the shuttle.

Uh, no.. Ammonium Perchlorate is a large part, (perhaps what you were thinking of) as the oxidixer, with powdered Aluminum (and or Magnesium?) and a rubber like binder making up the fuel..
