They are very similar. I know that current Alfas pass California emissions, for instance.

Hello All-
I understand that the US would require a new imported car to meet the
current US emission requirements, but how different are the current
standards here and in Europe?

It seems that with the advent of modern electronic fuel injection and the
new generation of cat/O2 sensor combos that it should be easy to bring a new
European car into compliance with US standards. If I were to
(hypothetically, of course) buy a new B*W in Germany how different would the
induction and exhaust systems actually be from the current US models?
Wouldn't they have similar Bosch injection systems?

I know there was a time when the emission standards here and across the pond
were very different ( Spica here in the states while euro spec cars still
ran Webers ), but these days I would have thought that the standards are
fairly similar...
