The Giulia Super was available with a diesel engine. It was a Perkins not a
Cummins, though.

A modern motorcycle engine, say the Honda Blackbird, maybe taken out to
1400cc or so, would easily fit in there. Sound juicy too. When it breaks,
you just get another one from a scrapyard and stick it in there. Not sure
what you'd do about the final drive or reverse, though. You can get
aftermarket reverse. Maybe manufacture an interface between the engine and
the original gearbox? Gearing would probably be way off. At least you'd win
the annual Alfa Romeo Digest "how high can I rev my engine"
thread/contest/debate/rumour-mill.

Do you see where I'm headed with this? No? That's good, neither do I.
