Re: Mini vs 147

Well, having driven both, I can tell you that the Mini Cooper 'S' is a lot more car than either of the two 4-cylinder 147s. Yes, the Mini is lighter, and the 'S' has more horsepower. But the real difference is in the handling and road-holdiing The 147 isn't even on the same planet with the Mini. Sure, 147 handles very good. This week last year, I was putting over 4000 miles on one in Italy, and had some great drives, but the 147 doesn't have that stuck-to-the-road, on-rails feeling of the Mini. Right now, I'd have to say that any US driving enthusiast OWES himself a Mini 'S', because Minis we can buy, and 147s we can't and likely never will be able to buy. But if I could buy either? I'd buy the Alfa. It looks better has more room inside, and I love that Selespeed Formula-1-like transmission! Heck, if they were sold here, I'd have my name down for a mew 147 GTA (250 HP DOHC 3.2 Liter V-6) right now.

That would make an interesting comparison, IMHO. Anybody seen one in
the Euro mags yet? I believe the Mini is a bit lighter tho, and perhaps
better in a slalom? TIA, Ron.
