I'm not Richard, but I'll play him on the digest...

It is sized for 1/2 inch ID hose on both sides.  On my GTV, this was perfect
for the inlet from the tank, but IIRC a bit larger than the suction port on
the fuel pump.  It will clamp down and seal to the pump with 1/2 inch ID hose,
and my car has been running fine since I did this job about a month ago.

       Does the Napa 3299 fuel filter have one large inlet and one small
outlet?  Or did you have to change the hoses around to make it work?
