Re: V6 cam belt tensioner

The ones that come from IAP have 'Made in Canada' cast into the back of the mounting plate. I thought it was unusual for an Italian car to use Canadian (or American) made parts.

The problem is that they are suspect even when brand new. Mine only
had 6k on it when the spring broke. It was replaced when the belt was.
The tang on the outer spring snaps off, allowing the belt to slacken,
and the timing to jump. Mine happened when I shut-off the engine.
There are definate quality control problems with these tensioners. IAP
isn't the only source that sold/is selling problematic tensioners.

My mechanic feels very strongly on this issue. After having to do a
couple of top-end rebuilds on call-backs after he changed the belt but
not the tensioner, he now insists that the customer replace the
tensioner EVERY TIME the belt is changed.
