My foray into double-clutching

The last couple of days, I spent double-clutching both my '88 Porsche
911 and my '86 GTV6. I found the 911 responded well to it. I gave the
clutch a quick pump while in the neutral gate before going into the
lower gear. It felt like it needed a lot less pressure to go into the
gear.

Now my GTV6 was a different story. Several times, when downshifting
from 3rd to 2nd, I experienced a painful, high speed grind. I have a
feeling it's because the clutch has too much play in it and when I
depressed the clutch after my neutral pump, it wasn't fully disengaging.

Since my synchros are good and I don't actually *need* to double-clutch,
I guess the experiment is over for me.
