"thingy" defined



Sorry fellas it's not an Alfa part.
As defined on page 142 of "Experience in a Book", the XJ-S owner's guide by 
Kirby Palm:
THINGY: Highly technical term referring to a specifically-shaped plastic 
thrust washer at the bottom of the rotor carrier shaft, just below the 
centrifugal advance weights. It has ears on it that appear to provide an 
inner stop for the centrifugal weights, apparently to reduce the noise but 
effectively limiting how retarded the timing moves at idle.
Mr. Palm included diagrams showing the correct installation of the "Thingy" 
in its locating pins.
