Re: 1994 164LS Auto shift interlock alfa-digest V8 #964

Ron:

Some interlock info. If you press the button on the shifter or pull on
the shifter before pressing the brake pedal, the interlock will prevent
you from operating the shifter.

If you truly can not operate the shifter with your foot on the pedal,
(see paragraph 1), there is a plug on the passenger side of the console
carpeting which you can remove and press a (mechanical (I think))
override button. Shifter may then be moved. This is important if your
battery fails.

Hope the above helps!

On a related matter, there is a key removal switch which seems to be
sensitive to battery voltage. After my car had sat for a few months,
the battery had to be charged with a charger. Evenso, the voltage was
marginal and the emergency key removal button under the steering column
needed to be used a couple of times. Then I noted, if I turned off the
Air Conditioning and the radio, before pressing the key removal switch,
it would release the key. Now after driving it quite a bit, there is no
problem, the battery has a full charge and the key removal button no
longer causes a problem.

Subject: 1994 164LS Auto shift interlock

Hello All,
The other day the 164 decided to lock in Park.
I know there's an interlock solenoid controlled by the brake pedal
somehow.
Checked fuses (inside the car). There are 2 switches above the brake
pedal.
Docs seem to say one is for brake lamps and the other for cruise
control.
There is supposedly some kind of switch for the interlock.
Am I missing something? I'm at a loss. An under hood fuse?

TIA
