I'm not an expert on a/c but I just refitted my every day driver with R-134.
I used the kit from Interdynamics.  I did not trust doing it by not using
gages. With R-134 if you don't have enough refrigerant it will not cool
properly, with too much you will have high head pressure that is not only
dangerous but will damage the system.  So I suggestion a set of gauges or at
least the single type that comes with some kits or available separate. This
way you know you have the correct charge.
