Missing '86
I have been working on my father's 1986 Graduate and I am looking for some
advice and guidance on what else to check and what to triple check.
The car has been parked for several years. I got the car running about a
month or so ago but with poor take up on acceleration. I finally had a had
a chance to get back to work on it and it had developed a bad miss. I think
I traced the acceleration problem to a bad vacuum sensor and replaced that
which seems to have helped, but it still misses. The car has a bad miss at
all RPM and seems to be running really rich. I also can't adjust the idle
up to the point to keep it running. Starts right up every time when it is
cold, and I can keep it running if I hold it above 1000rpm.
I have gone through all of the test I can that are listed in the workshop
manual.
Fuel pressure and volume are good.
Injectors and cold start valve seem not to leak. (Fuel pressure holds after
car is turned off)
Water Temp sensors give me a good reading when cold. (Haven't run checked at
operating temp)
Air-flow sensor appears to work.
Aux air device is closed when warm and open when cold.
Thermo-time switch checked ok
All the voltages at the ECU are OK.
It doesn't appear to be related to one cyl. All the plugs look the same.
I don't have access to the Bosch tester or an o-scope so I don't know the
coil voltage or exactly what signals are being sent from the ECU.
What else should I check? What should I check again?
TIA
