Re: a proposed alternate terminology (was: Define transaxle Alfa)

Peter Webb says " It was stated the Giulietta "short truck" of the eighties
was a transaxle car. It was indeed a conventional setup and although carries
a 116 number, follows the drive train of a 115"
For starters, Russ said "short trunk", "not short truck". For finishers, the
Milano was a Giulietta Nuova (the "Giulietta of the eighties", actually
dating from the late seventies to 1985) facelifted (new hood, decklid, and
fenders) repowered with the V6 and tweaked with various goodies, but same
doors, sideframe, roof, most of the floorpan. If Peter knows someone with a
copy of Fusi he should look at pages 797-804. P.799 is Fusi's list of
"caratteristiche tecniche" with De Dion, Watt's Link, rear gearbox, torsion
bars, and the Milano's 2,510 m. wheelbase, six cm. shorter than a 115
Berlina's. P.801 includes a cutaway showing the transaxle and DeDion, and
p.803 includes a section of the standard Alfetta gearbox (ratios differ)
which he can compare with the Alfetta gearbox section drawing on p.736.
Alternately, he can use any other reference source. I'm afraid Peter has
been misinformed. It happens to most of us at one time or another. Grin and
bear it.
Cheers,
John H.
