Slingers-What are they?

The slingers are to keep dirty/water/oil away from certain areas. The one on
the front of the crankshaft keeps oil away from the seal. The one on the
drive shaft keeps dirt and water away from the support bearing. IMHO.

Subject: Slingers-What are they?

Not sure why there would be a slinger on a driveshaft, but as far as I know
the slinger on the timing chain is usually a disk of metal that collects
descending oil and quite literally 'slings' it around as it rotates on the
end
of the crank to provide additional splash lubrication to the cam chain and
any
other internals that happen to get in the way.

Now someone will tell me i'm wrong
