Milano windows

Help!
My rear windows have been unable to move for a month or so. The fuse is not
blown, the relay for the cutout switch can be heard to cycle when the cutout
switch is pressed. So how do I figure this one out? Oh, yeah-today I pressed
the cutout switch and the windows went down just like that. Did I stop them
at just a crack and see if they would go up? Why, no. Of course not. Too
logical.
So now they are stuck down. The motors work, the relay is the same, the fuse
ditto. But both windows are out at the same time. So where is the juice
stopping?
I have just bought a auto-ranging multimeter, but don't really know much
about it's use. I do have the shop manual.
And as a last resort, is there a way to get the window winding mechanism free
to put the window up while I chase electrical gremlins?
Thanks,
John L
