Bedding in brakes
A common misconception is that brakes need to bed in to allow the pad to
adapt to the contours of the rotor. Actually, pads need to bed in to ensure
that the pad material is deposited onto the surface of the rotor. Just as
tire rubber laid down on a race track improves the grip of tires on the
road, so too does the pad material rubbed into the surface of the disc
improve braking friction. New pads take longer to bed in if you have new or
newly turned rotors.
