Bad CO reading for 164 TS
Tim, sorry for the lateness of this reply, I've just returned from
holiday.
First try a new oxygen sensor - Bosch part about 90 GBP from a Bosch
Fuel Injection dealer - against 130 GBP from an Alfa dealer as a Bosch
part in a Alfa bag - best to take off and look at number on body of
sensor.
You need a big spanner I recall - 21mm maybe. But you can remove it
without jacking the car up, screws into top of cat under gearlever.
Second, check all spark plug leads are intact - I had one break at the
coil end, but this sent my reading much higher.
Third and if your really struggling still. and I mean struggling
On the air flow meter there is a square black box on the top about 4
inches square, 1 inch thick, close to the air filter housing I recall.
Prise a screwdriver into one corner, and wait about 5 minutes for the
glue to come loose.
When the lid flies off, take the car to the test centre.
Hook up to the emission test equipment, and turn the screw/spring in one
direction then the other until the readings go down.
I suspect my reason for having to use the third step above was
application of K&N filter oil on the engine side of the K&N air filter,
which subsequently jammed up the air control flap in the AFM.
Hope this helps
David.
Ex-94 164 TS (sorely missed, drivers car)
98 166 Super - more power, but not quite so nice handling
