berlina weights

The comparison of weights of the 2000 berlina and Alfetta berlina naturally
raises questions about the other 105 sedan: the Giulia. Fusi doesn't used
a consistent method for reporting weights, with some being reported as
"peso a secco" (dry weight) and others as "peso in ordine di marcia"
(weight in running order; presumably with fluids). He does give dry
weights for the Giulia Super, 1750 berlina and 2000 berlina; those figures
are 990 kg (2178 lbs.) for the Giulia and 1060 kg (2332 lbs) for the other
two. A comparison to 105 coupes of equivalent vintage would also be
interesting. Fusi gives weights in ordine di marcia for the 1750 GT Veloce
and the GT Juniors, but dry weight for the 2000 GT Veloce, which is the
same as for the Giulia Super: 990 kg.

The 105 sedan also grew longer as it morphed from its original, Giulia
incarnation into 1750/2000 form. Fusi lists a wheelbase of 2570 mm and a
total length of 4390 mm for the 1750 and 2000 berlinas, compared to 2510
and 4160 mm for the Giulia berlina. In other words, the big-engined
berlinas were 230 mm (9 in) longer, of which 170 mm (6.7 in) were overhang.
The difference in width was minimal, however (the 1750 and 2000 were 5
mm wider than the Giulia), and the heights of all versions were identical.

The 1750/2000 berlina's extra 150 lbs and longer overhangs could explain
why some people think it feels ponderous relative to the Giulia or the
Bertone coupes. Still, it's a nice car, which I'd be happy to own.
