some additional commentary:

i've learned a little from my 1973 GTV.

the suspesion geometry in front isn't quite as good as that in the Alfettas
and cars of later design. at high roll (and with the softish stock
sprining, this can happen), the car will keep less rubber on the ground
with wide tires.

when i put 195/60R14 AVSi tires on the car, i also put in a shankle front
bar to keep the front flatter and maintain a better contact patch. i'd not
go to anything wider than 185 w/o a front sway bar upgrade.

this is one of the edge cases where beefing up the front suspension makes
the front better; conventional wisdom says stiffening up the front will
make the rear stick better, and it usually does.
