When not to trust the manual



Scott, it would have been worth it to buy a lottery ticket today. Luck was
with you on tightening the upper chain while the engine was running.
Much safer to do that with the engine OFF.
Remove the cam cover, turn the crank clockwise by hand, or the cams
counter-clockwise with a pin wrench (to put the slack in the chain on the side
of the engine where the adjuster is), loosen the 14mm adjuster (just enough so
that the adjuster is willing to move), use a small prybar to push the chain
tensioner sprocket out, taking up the slack in the chain, snug 14mm adjuster,
replace cam cover, enjoy.
