Motivation: Why GM Doesn't Have It

The GM heirarchy has realized for years what they are good at building (albeit
it's a diminishing list):  Trucks (specifically pickups), and passenger cars
that appeal to their repeat customers (avg. age 5 or 6 decades).

Don't kid yourself, Buicks sell well, and to a market that doesn't cut them to
shreds negotiating the lowest price.  GM knows they can't really compete with
the foreign small and medium size market, hence they have nothing competitive
to go against Honda, Toyota, the Koreans, BMW, etc., and the Ford Taurus
(other than Saturn).  What small and medium size cars they make are supplied
predominantly to rental car companies (of which GM owns the big ones).
Likewise GM has no marketable small SUVs, just the biggest hogs that mostly a
strange group buys (flame away).  Sports cars?  Nothing but the Corvette.
European offerings?  GM has summarily discontinued every one before it's time
was established (or they just imported totally the wrong car).

Remember what we heard right off the bat:  GM was going to build the US "Alfa"
in Malaysia!!  And put an Opel engine, or some such, in it!  Now (we hear) it
will share a platform with some other GM cars (the Sunbird, maybe?;  the
Lordstown Cavalier?).

I have -0- faith that GM   1) has any plan to bring in an enthusiast's
sportcar,  2) that it will be designed and built in Italy, or  3) that they
will come close to hitting the market that all of us know about.

Take my word for it, GM hasn't the management ability to do it.  If it can't
be sold in a typical GM dealership by a typical GM salesman with plaid jacket
and striped pants, then it's not going to exist (Corvettes are sold there,
remember).
