Exhausts

Ok, it's time for a new rear exhaust at least.  The stock exhaust is, well,
not very throaty and is way to mellow for the money I have in this engine
now.  What would you guys recommend?  Everywhere you look, ANSA seems to be
the choice, but noticed some archives about people bashing the same.  What
else is out there for an '86 Spider.  Anybody have Stedbro? (sp??)  Looking
for a little more beef out of the tailpipe if you know what I mean.  What is
the purpose of the center muffler in any event?  Can you run straight pipes
from cat back???  Can't be too loud with a 4 banger in it????  Thanks for
your input.
