156 GTA Group Test

Auto Express has published a group test of the 156GTA, Subaru Impreza WRX STi
Prodrive and BMW 330i SE.

Their conclusion ends as follows....< Who would have thought the finest sports
saloon here would be front wheel drive? Not us, thats for sure, but the Alfa
156 GTA is a great car, with stunning looks, good value, a truly powerful and
charismatic engine and , best of all, an intoxicating driving experience>

Other road tests confirm its out of this world handling about which Auto
Express say < The suspension has been tweaked to provide quick turn-in with a
hint of oversteer. Combine that with a complete absence of body roll and a
very grippy front end, and the GTA feels more direct, poised and agile than
the standard car. It dispatches corners with aplomb and is considerably more
positive and planted than the BMW>

Also the Consumers Association magazine "Which?" has grudgingly conceded that
UK Alfa Romeo147 owners they surveyed love their cars to bits (one owner said
he thought it the most beautiful car in the world) and would buy another. The
concept of enjoying the dynamic qualities of a car is entirely alien to the
Consumers Association mindset however and they explain this as an 'emotional'
attachment ( I think Mr Spock writes their roadtests). Which? does not miss a
chance to have a go however, so they resorted to saying the 147 has 'below
average' reliability and performed poorly in the Euro CAP crash tests
(Vulcan conclusion: Exchanging credits for this outmoded means of earthbound
terrestrial transport is illogical, but interesting from a behavioral
perspective )

Good news I think

Tim Hancock 164 TS Lusso Boston UK ( When can I start calling it a
collectors item? I need to get the sale price up somehow if i'm to save up for
a 156 )
