164S Sunroof ailment

My sunroof suddenly started making clunking noises and having a hard
time moving (open or closing).  It sounds like gears slipping.  I looked
for obstructions and found nothing.  After one false start and a partial
opening followed immediatly by a hesistant close it managed one more
open and then required a disconect and manual close.  Anybody been
through this?
