Unlowering

Barry Leavitt asks about installing spacers in the spring pans of his
aftermarket springs to unlower his now too-low Spider.

Q: "Has anyone done this?"

A: Yes, the factory installed them on all 105/115 cars to set original ride
height to the designed trim values, as listed in the "Suspensions and
Alignment" shop manual.

Q: "Where can I get my hands on a set?"

A: Any Alfa dealer should be able to get the OEM spacers. Fronts came in four
thicknesses, to be used below the spring in combinations as required to raise
or lower by roughly twice the spacer thickness, due to lever proportions of
the lower A-arm:

3.5 mm, p.# 105.16.21.528.00

4.5 mm, p.# 105.57.21.528.00

7.0 mm, p.# 105.16.21.528.01

19.5 mm, p.# 105.16.21.528.02

The rear spacers, used above the spring, also came in four thicknesses:

6.5 mm, p.#105.16.25.528.00

11.5 mm, p.#105.16.25.528.01

16.5 mm, p.#105.16.25.528.02

21.5 mm, p.#105.16.25.528.03

Q: What are your thoughts?

A: Compliments. Way to go, contrarian! Alfas deserve no less. Others, of
course, will differ. Enjoy yours,

John H.
