Re: alfa-digest V8 #596
David,
I guess you mean that you split the caliper. This is usually not
recommended by the manufacturer and the rebuild kits don't include the
little o-rings that go between the halves. On the GTV6.org web site there
are two references to the 116 chassis rear brakes under the technical
section. One author says to use your own judgement. the other is a
reference to Chris Snowden Racing who made a set of spacers so that
ventilated rotors could be used on the rear. I couldn't find any torque
reference on the CSR site. Before I ever heard that the halves shouldn't be
split I had already split, cleaned and repaired several calipers. On those
I just torqued them to what felt like what it took to get them apart and
went back and forth to make sure that they were even. I believe that is
more important than the exact torque value, but tight. You could go with a
general spec for the size of the bolts, thread pitch, etc.
From my Hayne's manual for the Alfetta the following torques were given.
For your reference files.
Nm lbft
front caliper mounting bolts 84 62
rear caliper mounting bolts 54 40
rear disc mounting bolts 54 40
servo mounting nuts 15 11
pipeline unions 10 7
rear crossmember mounting bolts 33 45 (this is from the
manual, perhaps they meant 45,33)
