Re: Alfetta Air Pumps
Andrew Watry asked about air pumps in 115/116 series cars, and wondered if they were only fitted on 1977 and later cars. My "49 State" (read: non-California) early 1976 Alfetta Gt has an air pump but no catalytic converter. It has a nice data plate on the door jamb which declares it to be "non-catalyst". The State of Arizona emissions database lists this year and model as having an air pump, so no matter how cleanly it passes the sniff test it will fail the visual test without one. Thus, when the engine was rebuilt a really slick air rail had to be fabricated to connect the air pump to the euro headers on my car (yes, I still have the original 4 into 1 manifold on the shelf...). A Spider air rail was modified, and it looks like a factory job.
Other 76 Alfettas may be different...
