the original porsche design is inherently bad from a stability point of view. 
     from the basic rear suspension layout, rearward weight bias, and overall 
profile (side view).  all in all, in any given set of circumstances, it has 
got to be one of the worst from a stability point of view. doubt you'd notice 
any problems at 40 mph in the dry and straight - but then again, that's not 
exactly a particularly dangerous set of circumstances.  listening to what 
tess says - if you can feel "squirrely" at 70 mph, that can't be good.  
Porsche has spent many millions of dollars trying to massage the design into 
somethng that approaches stability. none have been particuarly successful.  
IMHO, anyone who puts titanium conn rods into a street motor to get weight 
out of the rear end, is desparate.  not until they abandoned the original 
356/911 layouts did thngs start to get better w/ the 993s,and finally the 
996s.
