Handbrake adjusment

Hi

After replacing the rear brake pads and disks on my -89 164TS, how much
do I need to work the hand brake lever in order to have the auto
adjustment mechanism of the calipers set to an appropriate working
position? For the moment I have only minor brake power from the hand
brake.
