OIL service letters

 There's a good book out titled "Drive it Forever" by Robert Sikorsky
(McGraw-Hill). He writes about oils up to service rating SF and SG.  The
alphabetical designations starting with SA, SB........SG  etc. refer to the
evolution of oil additives and correlate chronologically with developments in
the oil industry.  Some of the additives in oils can be viscosity index
improvers, anti-foam agents, detergents-dispersives, rust, corrsion, and
oxidation inhibitors, pour-point depressants, anti-wear additives, extreme
pressure additives etc.
  He doesn't mention SL or SJ rated oils as these were most likely developed
after the book was published in 1983 ("updated in 1989").
