RE: loss of gasoline as reason to scrap cars
The loss of gasoline won't be any reason to condemn combustion engines to
the museum/scrap heap. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of
alternatives. Sure, nothing else has the specific output of gasoline but LPG
(liquid propane gas) is used a lot these days. There are plenty of
naturally-brewed alternatives too. I forget the name of it but there is a
small island, I think in the South Pacific, where the natives rebelled
against the Australia-backed mining company which was wreaking havoc with
both the natural ecosystem and the native people's way of life.
In order to keep their cars/trucks going, they produce all the lubricants
and combustible fuels they need from coconuts. Alcohol, I presume.
