Definitely opt for the cover with mirror pockets.  Without them, those 
areas of the cover will become quickly worn, as will the paint of your 
mirrors.  As far as size, the differences between the various year Spiders 
are pretty minimal, and certainly not enough to worry about.  My '74 with 
it's small steel bumpers is closer in size to your '81 than it is to a 
late-80's Spider, but I bought a cover for an '87, just for the mirror 
pockets, and it fits fine.

I've purchased my last several covers from Big Sky Car Covers (800) 
221-4875, in Bozeman, MT.  They've had the best prices every time I've 
looked, so you might want to give them a call.  If it helps, the part 
number I ordered was C8744 GK, but that was an Evolution 4, a step below 
the Noah.  The price was $120 shipped.  I opted for the Evolution 4 because 
the fabric is heavier and we've got cats around the house.
