Anybody in the Northwestern section of the country (others too) may be 
interested in checking out the Clear Creek Distillery in Portland OR.  The 
NWARC ended their fall wine tour there and the owner presented us with tastes 
of his grappa as well as many many other distilled beverages.  There we were 
in the heart of fine wine country and the owner, Stephen McCarthy has been 
distilling fine beverages from all kinds of fruits and their by-products for 
about 15 years.  
If you are near Portland, I heartily recommend looking them up.
