GM and Fiat

The commentary (dated 12/17) entitled "GM May Find Fiat Burdensome" at
Bloomberg's website says in part:
"Starting in 2004, Turin-based Fiat -- whose auto subsidiary already is 20
percent owned by General Motors -- will have a five- year option to put the
remainder in the hands of the world's No. 1 automaker at a price to be set
by investment bankers.
"Fiat's moves last week to prop up its sagging balance sheet with $3.1
billion in fresh capital suggest the company will exercise the option. Fiat
Automotive, with chronic financial losses, hasn't earned a profit since
1997."
