Alternator Light on 93 164L

Just started acting up on saturday. Started the car normally and the
alternator idiot light lit up and stayed lit after the engine started and ran
normally. After running a few minutes, 3 or 4, it went out. Then it would
periodically come back on for a few seconds, and then go out again. Revving
the engine does not seem to help. It has a new belt that was installed when
having the valves done, just 1K miles ago. Otherwise the car runs normally.
The voltmeter reads a normal and stable 14+V and there is no light
fluctuations during night driving. Could this be just the internal voltage
regulator (easy to fix) or should I just pop for a rebuild? Help and advice
appreciated...Jerry in Houston
